Why This Site Exists
Iowa treats many jail and inmate records as public records, but the records do not live in one place. The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office operates the local jail roster for people held at the Winneshiek County Jail in Decorah. The Iowa Department of Corrections keeps a separate locator for sentenced state offenders. Federal and immigration custody use still different lookup systems.
